MACKLEMORE (US)

Saturday, August 19

Wearing his grandfather's worn fur coat and a fringed leather jacket, he put second-hand fashion on the agenda in 2012.

As a 6-year-old wandering around Seattle, little Ben Haggerty, better known as the one and only Macklemore, discovered hip-hop and was inspired by the really big names. When he turned 15, he picked up pen and paper. Now he is high up in the starry sky as a true GOAT, both as a musician, one of the world's very best live artists, as well as a genuinely alright person.

In 2012, Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis released their debut album The Heist, which peaked at a modest No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. After that, it only went one way. The duo became the first in history to have their first two singles hit No. 1 on the aforementioned charts, both "Thrift Shop ft. Wanz" and "Can't Hold Us" setting records. In 2014, the guys made a clean sweep at the Grammy Awards when they won four awards for best rap song, album, song and best music video. They beat current rap king Kendrick Lamar that night.

Karen has done things his own way from the start. He wants to be in control of his own art, and has therefore never signed with a major label. It is largely because of the big, soft heart he hides in his chest that makes him think "what do I want to say? I have an opportunity here." He addresses the difficult topics and is an advocate for everyone to love who they want, and for everyone to have the same rights. Macklemore has also worked with none other than Barack Obama against the opioid epidemic and substance abuse in the United States.

There's no doubt that Macklemore works really hard to deliver time and time and time again, and gives it his all for his audience. If he shouts at the moose right before he steps on stage, never mind that! He's a great guy and downright funny, which is probably a lot of what makes him such a unique presence on stage.

Honestly, there's no point in trying to count all the streams. As you probably know, he has billions of them.

You can only LOOK FORWARD to an absolutely crazy show with one of the rap world's coolest dudes. Enjoy the return of the Mac at Ypsilon 2023!
